For the convenience of our students and alumni, Ferrum College provides students and alumni with email accounts that are hosted by Google. Student and alumni email communications will not be stored or retained on Ferrum college servers; except for the time that student/alumni email that originates within the campus network is in transit on the campus network.
As noted in the College's "Policy on Responsible Use of Computer and Communication Equipment", the College reserves the right to monitor without notice usage of communication equipment; including, but not limited to, the content of e-mail and Internet usage on the College network.
Additionally, the Director of Administrative Computing or his/her designee, acting as the Ferrum College Google Apps domain administrator, may access account information for the following purposes:
The Director of Administrative Computing or his/her designee, acting as the Ferrum College Google Apps domain administrator is responsible for preparing and filing Incident Reports for all network and server failures that might affect email services.
In the event of such a failure, the Director of Administrative Computing or his/her designee, acting as the Ferrum College Google Apps domain administrator will notify the Chief Information Officer that the Incident Report has been completed and that all email services have been restored to a fully operational state. The Chief Information Officer will prepare a written review of these Incident Reports at the end of every calendar quarter for review by ISAC and Administrative Council.
